What I wouldn't give to swim in that water! This was such a delight to read. I loved it!

I have friends, a couple, who swear by Athens. They and now you have convinced me to put it on my list -- not to mention Hydra!

Yay! Do it! I know some people say Athens is "gritty," but I don't agree. It might be rougher around the edges than, say, the fanciest parts of Paris, but it's equally more relaxed and down to earth, which is exactly what's great about it. And if you get there and somehow don't love it, it's easy to hop on a ferry to a gorgeous island for the day!

I love Greece too, your words echo my thoughts so well. I try to go to Athens often to see friends and just returned a few days ago. Some restaurants I can recommend for your next visit would be Rafiki, Feyrouz (Levantine food), Cocona, and Tanini Agapi Mou for a great Greek natural wine menu and small but tasty menu. Also, check out Monsieur Didot between Kolonaki and Exarchia for your next hotel ;)

Thank you for this! I keep a list of places to go on vacation where there are no cars, or cars on not necessarily. Because car free = vacation to me. I especially seek out islands. I’ve only been to Samos and Paros islands of Greece. It’s as you say - so many to check out. This is a great recommendation!

Paros is high on my list--as is Sifnos, which I've heard has amazing food!

My other favorite car-free island is Fire Island, New York :)
