I wished to write a real “guide-book” chapter on this fascinating city, but I could not do it, because I have felt all the time like a boy in a candy-shop—there was every thing to choose from, and yet no choice. I have drifted along hopelessly for a hundred pages of manuscript without knowing where to commence.
—Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad
As Mark Twain found on his grand tour of Europe in the 1860s, it’s hard to know where to start—or perhaps, where to stop—in the Eternal City. Rome has so much to offer that decision paralysis can set in. With this guide, I’ll help you avoid that indecision and steer you toward great, delicious things.
Our trip to Rome was one of the best that Nick and I have ever taken, to the point that getting stuck there for a few extra days was an absolute pleasure. I don’t normally gush about places quite to the extent I gush about Rome, but I really believe it has something for everyone. An unbeatable art scene. Decadent eats. Millennia worth of history. Good bars and coffee culture. Great shopping. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Because I love Rome so much and we were there for quite a while, I have a ton of recommendations and this guide is LONG…if you are reading it as an email, it may be truncated. You can click the “view in browser” link in the top right to see the rest. Andiamo!
